Mary Anne Krupsak, a trailblazing figure in the fight for women’s rights, and the first woman ever elected Lieutenant Governor of New York State, passed away on December 28th at her home on Seneca Lake.
According to an obituary from the Palmisano-Mull Funeral Home in Geneva, Krupsak was born on March 26, 1932, in Schenectady, New York to Ambrose and Mamie Krupsak. Raised in Amsterdam, Montgomery County, NY, Krupsak earned her Bachelor’s Degree in history from the University of Rochester in 1953, before receiving her Masters Degree in public communication from Boston University in 1955. Prior to graduating from the University of Chicago Law School in 1962, Krupsak served as a Public Information Officer at the New York State Department of Commerce, and later as a staff member of New York Governor W. Averell Harriman.
She was a member of both the New York State Assembly from 1969-1973, and the New York State Senate from 1973-1975, and soundly defeated Mario Cuomo in the Democratic primary of 1974, prior to making history as the first woman ever to be nominated and elected Lieutenant Governor of New York in November of that year.
Family and Friends may attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am on Monday, January 6, 2025, at St. Francis De Sales Church, 130 Exchange Street, Geneva.
Burial will be at Fort Hill Cemetery, Auburn.
