No Plans to Dissolve the Waterloo Police Department

SHARE NOW

Despite a public outcry from the police officers’ union, Waterloo Mayor Walter Bennett says he never proposed dissolving the police department.

The Finger Lakes Times reports Bennett was just trying to determine what it might cost for the county to take over village policing, calling it a routine look for potential savings. Bennett says there’s no active proposal and emphasized the village would maintain 24/7 police coverage.

Last week the police officer’s union and the Seneca Falls Police Department issued letters of support for Waterloo Police.

Now the Seneca County Sheriff Timothy Thompson has posted a letter saying he would never support the reduction or elimination of a law enforcement agency.
