The Save-A-Lot grocery store in Newark is closing its doors, with ownership announcing the end of its time serving the community.
In a message shared with customers on its Facebook page, store leaders said the decision to step away from the grocery business came after years of dedication and hard work.
“It is with heavy hearts and wet eyes that we write this post,” the statement read. “Unfortunately, our time in Newark and the grocery world has come to an end. We have given everything we have to this business, but it’s time to let it go and start a new chapter.”
Owners thanked loyal shoppers who supported the store over the years, saying many customers had come to feel like family.
They also shared an emotional message to employees, calling the staff “the greatest, most loyal crew,” and reflecting on years of working side-by-side through challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic. Ownership said the team grew together both professionally and personally, and described the group as more than co-workers.
“Even though we won’t be together on a daily basis anymore, we will always be a team and more importantly, a family,” the statement said.
No timeline for the closure or details about what comes next were immediately released. The owners said they are now preparing to move on to the next chapter of their lives while expressing gratitude to the community and staff for their support over the years.
