Emotions are running high at a Newark Cemetery.
Last week, family members found their meaningful decorations removed by the cemetery grounds staff. They claim the items were broken or, in some cases, stolen and left in piles. They called it a “disgrace, sacrilegious, and unholy.”
Newark Mayor Jonathan Taylor tells 13WHAM- “The village board continues its investigation into what occurred in our cemeteries last week. The rules and management of decorations in the cemetery have been the same for over 20 years. Neither the mayor, village board nor supervisors directed anyone to do anything differently. Once the board has completed their investigation, they will take appropriate action. We understand the emotional sensitivity and concerns raised by this situation, and ask for the public’s patience as we work through this process.”
