One local police department has a new contract with the community it serves.
Newark Mayor Jonathan Taylor said the village was able to reach a new deal with the police union on Tuesday. Negotiations on a new deal were set to begin in early 2020 but because of COVID both sides agreed to a delay. A tentative agreement was reached last August before the new six-year deal was ratified yesterday.
“Unfortunately, COVID happened and both sides agreed to delay the start of negotiations,” said Newark Mayor Jonathan Taylor. “We are pleased to have an agreement officially accepted by both parties. Now, with a new chief in place and a new contract, we can move forward and continue the good work our department does for years to come.”
Police Commissioner and Village Trustee Stuart Blodgett said, “I am glad that we were able to negotiate a good contract that met the needs of our police department as well as the taxpayers.”
