Newark Police Chief Richard Martin is praising three of his officers for their response to a fire at the Armstrong Senior Living Center.
After Sgt. Randy Rice, Investigator/Sgt. Jay Warren and Officer Aaron Dean arrived on the scene last Thursday to find a fire in a resident’s room, the trio began evacuating other residents from the second floor. Working through the heavy black smoke, the three officers evacuated the elderly residents quickly and brought them to safety. Firefighters extinguished the blaze before it could spread.
Chief Martin said, “This is an example of the selfless service that officers engage in. On any given day, an Officer’s shift can go from mundane to dangerous in a minute. These Officers acted without thought to their personal safety to make sure there were no serious injuries or fatalities. It also demonstrates the dedication to those who volunteer in our community fire department.”
