A Newark man is facing drug charges after being caught speeding in Auburn.
According to the Auburn Police Department, Police, the incident happened around 2:30a on Tuesday when patrol officers observed Christopher Clack speeding on Wall Street. He then illegally passed another vehicle as he ran a stop sign at the intersection of Washington and Wall Streets.
As officers caught up with Clack, he pulled into a front yard on Derby Ave and was quickly detained.
Officers report finding an open container of alcohol in the vehicle and 1.2 grams of cocaine on Clack.
As Clack was being placed in the back of a patrol car, he fled from officers on foot but was apprehended again near West St and his vehicle was towed from the scene.
Clack was taken to police headquarters where he refused to submit to a breath test to determine his blood alcohol content.
In addition to the cocaine, Clack was found to have five oxycodone pills on him. The drugs were wrapped in $400 in cash. A search of his vehicle turned up an additional 5.5g of cocaine.
Clack was charged with one felony count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, misdemeanor counts of Attempted Escape, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Driving While Intoxicated, and Reckless Driving. He also faces infractions for Speed in Zone, Improper Passing, Failure to stop at a Stop Sign, and Open Container of Alcohol.
