Newark Expands Youth Programming Through Major Grants

Newark is boosting opportunities for young residents through a series of new grants aimed at expanding programming at the Alex Eligh Community Center, Mayor Jonathan Taylor announced.

The largest grant comes from Delphi Rise, providing $250,000 annually for five years. The funding will support full-time staff and enable a wide range of programs for local youth, including tutoring, mentoring, and recreational activities.

“Not every kid wants to use the community center for sports,” Taylor said. “Through these grants, we have the opportunity to help youth outside of school, keeping them active, supporting their schoolwork, and providing mentors who can guide them through challenges at home or with peers.”

Smaller grants from local organizations, including Del Lago and Wayne County, will support specific events and programs such as the annual holiday party and other community activities.

The investment reflects Newark’s broader commitment to providing safe, engaging spaces for children and teens. Mayor Taylor emphasized that the grants are part of a regional approach to improving services not just for the village, but for surrounding communities as well.

“With dedicated staff and expanded programming, the community center will be a hub for youth development and enrichment,” he said.
