On Monday, the new 75-THOUSAND square foot Sands Family YMCA officially opened in Canandaigua. The Sands Family donated $13.5 million to help fund the new North Road facility.
The project also received $1 million in federal funding and another $1 million dollars from businessman and philanthropist Brian Prince. The Y held two open houses over the weekend to allow members and non-members to check out the new facility.
The new Y was built on 13 acres of land donated by Constellation Brands that brought this project to the corner of North Street and North Bloomfield Road, keeping the YMCA within the city limits of Canandaigua.
“The importance of providing safe outlets for families was something instilled in me by my parents,” said Richard Sands, Executive Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors, Constellation Brands. “That is why we knew it was essential to help with creating a modern-day YMCA to serve Canandaigua families and the greater community.”
