This year’s Right to Run 5K race is set to be held in Seneca Falls on Saturday, July 1st, coinciding with the town’s Annual Canal Festival—this date has been changed from the original date of July 8th. This year’s race will include an in-person 5K as well as a virtual 5K and 19K option for those who cannot travel to the physical race but would still like to run and submit their times.
The Right to Run race was created as an ode to the Women’s Rights Movement in Seneca Falls and pays homage to the 19th Amendment – women’s right to vote. The race will follow its usual course through the historic downtown area, starting at and finishing at the Seneca Falls Recreation Center.
This year the race will help raise money for local charities that support women such as; Athena Award for Continuing Education (A.C.E.) Scholarship, The National Women’s Hall of Fame, CAP Women’s Transitional House, United Ways of Seneca County Women’s Leadership Council, Safe Harbors of the Finger Lakes, and 1st Amendment, 1st Vote.
Runners who are interested in registering for the race can visit “Right to Run” on Facebook and follow the link to the online registration form or by visiting www.righttorun19k.org. The race is also seeking road marshals and volunteers to help with the event. Right to Run is a USTAF sanctioned 5K race and is presented by Generations Bank.
