Nearly 200 Rally in Geneva for Climate Action on “Sun Day”

Nearly 200 people gathered in Geneva on Sunday for the Sun Day with a FLX Twist event, joining business owners and environmental advocates from across the Finger Lakes region to call on New York leaders to uphold the state’s climate laws and advance progress on the climate crisis. Lieutenant Governor Delgado delivered virtual remarks during the rally.

Sun Day, a national day of action celebrating clean energy, focused on urgent environmental threats affecting the Finger Lakes’ air and water. Speakers highlighted concerns over Greenidge Generation, a gas-powered cryptomining facility, and the Seneca Meadows landfill, New York’s largest landfill, which is seeking to expand by 47 acres and continue operations for 15 more years.

With support for climate policies reportedly declining statewide, organizers said the rally aimed to send a clear message to elected officials: it’s time to block corporate polluters and protect New York’s natural resources and economic future.
