A vacant building on Water Street was damaged by fire in Lyons on Friday morning.
According to the Newark Fire Department, additional support for Lyons firefighters came from the Newark, Alton, Clyde, and Wallington fire companies. The Sodus Center Fire Department and Marbletown Fire Department were requested but held in quarters with their tankers.
Firefighters were initially hampered by frozen hydrants, as temperatures were reported at -15 degrees, but crews were quickly able to establish a reliable water supply and bring the fire under control.
No word yet on the cause of the fire or any injuries. Officials say the response highlights the coordination of multiple area departments in challenging winter conditions.
We do have photos from the scene posted by the Newark Fire Department on its Facebook page.
We will continue to update this story as more information is made available.
