For the first time in nearly 30 years, the Marcus Whitman Marching Wildcat Winterguard took first place at the North East Color Guard Circuit Championships. The competition was held on Saturday at Gates Chili High School.
Competing in the Regional A Class, the team achieved a season-high score of 83.93 with their 2025 production, Tightrope. Set to the titular song from The Greatest Showman, the program explores the power of trust and collaboration, reminding audiences that life’s challenges are best faced together.
“It has been incredible watching this group grow together over the past six months and ultimately achieve their goal,” said Director Amelia Rasmussen. “I can’t wait to see what’s next for these outstanding young people!”
The Marching Wildcat Winterguard is under the direction of Amelia Rasmussen, with additional instruction by Sandra Herman and Michelle Boylan. Show design is by Austin Kephart and Amelia Rasmussen.
The group is open to students in grades 6-12 from the Marcus Whitman and Penn Yan Central School Districts.
