Assemblyman Brian Manktelow is once again calling out the governor’s plan to phase out diesel school buses in the state by 2027 as unachievable.
Speaking on FLX Morning, the assemblyman said he doesn’t think it’s possible to switch over all the state’s school buses to electric vehicles in the timeline proposed by Hochul.
“I sit on the energy committee as well so we get to hear and see a lot of this stuff,” he said. “I think everybody is in favor of cleaner energy down the road, absolutely. Is the tech there yet? No, not at all, not to move it as fast as the governor wants to move it.”
He also cited the availability of energy and the cost of new buses for districts as issues that need to be solved before full electrification can take place.
Manktelow represents the 130th Assembly District which consists of Wayne County and part of Monroe County.
