Following a reported burglary Friday evening in the Town of Lyons, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office reports that a 41-year-old Newark man has been arrested.
Deputies were called around 6:30 p.m. Friday to an apartment on Water Street after receiving the burglary report.
Investigators said Florencio Alicea of Newark had forced his way into the victim’s apartment, damaging the door and stealing several items. Deputies later located Alicea in possession of the stolen property.
Authorities said that after his arrest, Alicea attempted to bribe officers to secure his release.
Alicea has been charged with second-degree burglary, petit larceny, fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, fourth-degree criminal mischief, and third-degree bribery.
He was taken to the Wayne County Jail, where he was held for Centralized Arraignment Processing.
The investigation remains ongoing.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
