A group of local activist organizations plans to gather in front of U.S. Rep. Claudia Tenney’s Canandaigua office on Tuesday to mark the fifth anniversary of the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol and to voice their concerns about her record in Congress.

The demonstration is scheduled from 4 to 5 p.m. outside Tenney’s district office at 2375 Rochester Road. Organizers say the event will bring together members of Indivisible Rochester and allied groups, including People’s Action, Finger Lakes Region Makers Collective, Indivisible Genesee Valley, Veterans for Peace Chapter 23, Genesee Valley Citizens for Peace, and Hemlock Rising.

Organizers say the protest will focus on Tenney’s record in Congress and her representation of New York’s 24th District, which spans several Finger Lakes counties. The gathering coincides with nationwide activities planned around the fifth anniversary of the Jan. 6 Capitol breach, a date that has been marked in many communities with vigils, protests and hearings reflecting on the event’s impact on democracy.

Tenney, who represents the district that includes Ontario, Seneca, Wayne and Yates counties, has held office since first being elected to Congress in 2021 after a contested race. Her tenure has included votes on high‑profile legislation and involvement in issues drawing strong reactions from both supporters and critics.

Organizers say the Canandaigua event is expected to be peaceful and focused on civic engagement and expression.
