An exposed wire in a ceiling light is believed to have been responsible for a fire inside an East Main Street apartment in Clifton Springs on Sunday.
A resident of the apartment told investigators that approximately 30 minutes before the fire broke out, he and his son changed a light bulb where the fire started. It’s believed the movement of the light socket during the bulb changing was enough to cause an arc. Firefighters removed the smoldering pieces of the ceiling. No foul play is suspected.
Clifton Springs and Phelps Fire Departments responded to the scene as did the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, State Police, and Ontario County Fire Coordinator Scott DeCook.
