Former NASCAR driver and racing analyst Kyle Petty’s Ride Across America passed through the Finger Lakes on Wednesday afternoon. Before Petty and the almost 200 motorcyclists who are joining him on this journey made their way from Clyde to Watkins Glen International, he spoke with Finger Lakes Daily News about the ride and his return to the Finger Lakes.
Petty’s annual ride benefits Victory Junction, a camp dedicated to providing life-changing camping experiences for children with serious and chronic medical conditions. Victory Junction is a member of the SeriousFun Children’s Network of Camps, founded by actor Paul Newman.
Since the Ride’s inception, 9,350 riders have logged more than 13.1 million cumulative motorcycle miles and raised more than $22 million for Victory Junction and other children’s charities. Among the 225 riders joining Kyle this year are Herschel Walker, Ken Schrader, Kenny Wallace and Kyle’s legendary racing father, “The King” Richard Petty.
