A Farmington man was arrested following a reported menacing incident involving a knife at a local motel, according to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies say 33-year-old Christopher Kowalski was taken into custody Dec. 19 after an investigation into a disturbance at the Finger Lakes Inn on Loomis Road. Authorities allege Kowalski brandished a large kitchen knife during a verbal confrontation with another resident.
Investigators say an adult woman and a young child were nearby at the time of the incident and feared for their safety while the knife was displayed. As a result, Kowalski was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, second-degree menacing, and endangering the welfare of a child.
Kowalski was arrested without incident and transported to the Ontario County Jail for pre-arraignment detention. He is scheduled to appear in Farmington Town Court at a later date.
A stay-away order of protection was requested on behalf of the adult and juvenile victims.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
