The second trial of two local men accused of killing a former Waterloo resident started Monday with jury selection.
Wayne Ellison, Junior, of Waterloo, and Christopher Kesterson, of Phelps, face murder and weapons charges for the death of Texas resident William Waugh. Waugh was visiting friends in Waterloo for a wedding in September 2022 when he was shot at a home on Route 96 in the town of Waterloo. Police say a bar fight that night was the likely motive for the murder.

The first trial in December was declared a mistrial due to a procedural error. It was originally set to begin last August but was postponed after Seneca County District Attorney Mark Sinkiewicz turned over additional evidence just as the trial was set to start.
