SHARE NOW

One officer required transport to an outside hospital for a knee injury after an inmate refused to return to his cell and fought with staff at Five Points Correctional Facility in Romulus.

According to the New York State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association, on September 13, two officers were monitoring inmates exiting their cells for morning recreation when one inmate refused to follow orders to return to his cell. He allegedly became belligerent, assumed an aggressive stance, and attempted to punch one officer.

The inmate reportedly continued resisting violently, forcing officers to move him onto the cell block floor. He also tried to kick multiple officers before additional staff arrived. Officers were eventually able to restrain him, handcuff his arms, and escort him to a holding cell, where he continued to act combatively and threaten staff.

The inmate was later moved to a Special Housing Unit and faces disciplinary charges.

One officer sustained a knee injury during the struggle. He was treated at the facility before being transported to Geneva Hospital for further care.

The 22-year-old inmate is serving a seven-year sentence for a 2022 Kings County conviction for second-degree attempted murder.
