HWS News Release –
Sportscaster Tyler Terens a Hobart and William Smith 2016 graduate has been picked to join Fox Sports’ soccer team for its coverage of the 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup, which starts on Saturday, June 14. The former Hobart soccer player will be one of the network’s play-by-play commentator during the group stage.
Terens will make his tournament debut with former England National Team defender Warren Barton on Sunday, June 15, when Costa Rica takes on Suriname in San Diego. In total, Terens is scheduled to call eight games, five with Barton and three with former U.S. Men’s National Team Defender Maurice Edu.
“I’ve admired Fox Sports’ coverage of major tournaments for years and to be joining them for an international tournament is really special,” Terens said. “I’m excited to get to work with this group.”
Terens has spent the last two years as a play-by-play commentator for Major League Soccer on Apple TV. He made his national television debut calling a pair of MLS matches for ESPN in 2022. He is also a co-host for various soccer shows on SiriusXM FC (Ch. 157).
In 2020, Terens joined the Chicago Fire’s broadcast team for WGN and ESPN+. He called one match alongside legendary U.S. Soccer goalkeeper Tony Meola before the pandemic showed the sports world a red card. A year later, Terens returned to the booth to describe the action for the Fire.
Terens got his start in broadcasting as a senior at Hobart and William Smith, calling basketball and hockey games for campus radio station WHWS. Following graduation, he worked as a commentator for the University of Vermont basketball, the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League, America East TV, IVY League Network, and Patriot League Network.
His broadcasting career kicked into high gear when he was hired by VISTA Worldlink. Headquartered near Miami, the company provides streaming services to a wide-range of clients. Terens called matches from CONCACAF Champions League to Gold Cup to U.S. Open Cup to the USL’s Phoenix Rising, all while watching the action on a monitor in a Florida studio.
A four-year letter winner for the Hobart soccer team, Terens was a starter on defense in his final three seasons. He helped the Statesmen win at least 10 games in each of his four seasons, posting a 13-3-2 record as a senior. That year, Terens and his Hobart teammates finished second in the Liberty League with a 5-1-2 record.
In 57 career matches, Terens produced five goals and seven assists. He was a two-time Liberty League All-Academic selection, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. Terens and his classmates guided Hobart to a 46-22-6 overall record.
