The Seneca Waterways Council has announced Jonathan Widmark as its new Scout Executive, effective March 1st. Widmark brings over 20 years of professional Scouting experience, and what the Council cites as a “proven track record of leadership and a commitment to growing and enriching Scouting programs in the communities he serves.”
Widmark began his professional Scouting career in 2003 as a District Executive in Portland, Maine, and has since held leadership positions across multiple councils. Most recently, he has served as Scout Executive for the Cape Fear Council in Wilmington, North Carolina. During his nine-year tenure in Wilmington, Widmark achieved balanced budgets every year, grew the council’s endowment, and reinvested in camp infrastructure to significantly increase camper attendance.
An Eagle Scout, Widmark said he is passionate about fostering relationships with volunteers, staff, and community stakeholders to deliver quality Scouting experiences. He believes his expertise in financial stewardship, membership growth, and program development has consistently advanced the mission of Scouting in every community he has served.
Widmark also has a deep connection to the Finger Lakes region, having graduated from Hobart College in Geneva, with a Bachelor of Arts in History. His familiarity with the area and its communities will further enhance his ability to lead the council in serving local youth and families.
“I am thrilled to join the Seneca Waterways Council Scouting family and help advance the organization’s mission of developing young people into tomorrow’s leaders,” said Widmark. “This council has an unparalleled legacy of service to youth in Rochester and the Finger Lakes region, and I look forward to working alongside our dedicated volunteers and staff to grow membership and programs while ensuring Scouting continues to thrive.”
David Bullwinkle, Council Board President, expressed his enthusiasm for Widmark’s arrival.
“Jonathan’s extensive experience, strategic vision, and passion for Scouting make him an outstanding choice to lead the Seneca Waterways Council into the future,” said Bullwinkle. “We are confident in his ability to build on our successes and expand opportunities for youth in our region. We are excited to welcome him to Rochester.”
Widmark and his family enjoy traveling, hiking, bicycling, and spending time outdoors. His appointment marks a new chapter for the Seneca Waterways Council as it continues to serve thousands of young people across the Rochester and Finger Lakes region with programs that build character, leadership, and lifelong skills.
