Guilty Plea in Canandaigua Dog Attack

SHARE NOW

One of the two individuals charged in connection with a violent dog attack in Canandaigua last summer has pleaded guilty.

Casey Murphy admitted in court that he was responsible for a dog belonging to Madison Herendeen on August 29, when the animal broke free and attacked a Rochester man who was walking with his 10-year-old son on South Main Street. The father suffered serious injuries while protecting his child, who was able to run to safety at a nearby business. Bystanders intervened and managed to restrain the dog until authorities arrived.

Police reported that the dog had a history of aggressive behavior and had previously been involved in other incidents. Its owner, Herendeen, had already received citations for the animal prior to this attack.

Murphy will be sentenced in July.
