An 18-year-old Geneva man faces six months in jail and five years probation after pleading guilty to providing Fentanyl to a teenage girl, who passed away after ingesting it.
The 18-year-old, who was not identified by the Ontario County District Attorney’s Office due to being 17 years old at the time of the crime, admitted to knowingly providing the 16-year-old girl Fentanyl disguised to look like Percocet.
“Today’s guilty plea provides some sense of justice for the young woman who lost her life and her family, but unfortunately does not alleviate the pain caused by the defendant’s actions,” said Assistant District Attorney Peter Van Dellon. “We need this community to truly understand the impact the sale of illegal drugs has on our youth and the community as a whole.”
“We encourage everyone in our community to continue to be vigilant. The drugs, in this case, were disguised as a less lethal controlled substance, right down to the stamp pressed into the pills,” said Assistant District Attorney Meghan Maslyn, “Fentanyl is deadly. We are finding it in all types of street drugs, and it’s killing people. Today’s plea holds an 18-year-old accountable for providing a 16-year-old with the drugs that took her life. It is just one step in the ongoing fight to end these senseless tragedies.”
The 18-year-old is expected to be sentenced this week.
