Groups of students, educators, school leaders, and community leaders from Geneva City Schools are gathering on Monday to begin designing together and shaping a new vision for education—for the immediate future and beyond—with a World Savvy Changemaker Hub.
Taking place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The Dove Block Project, this World Savvy Changemaker Hub is an event meant to catapult conversations within the district’s community, in schools, and beyond. This work is a part of World Savvy and Geneva’s greater professional development partnership that includes Leadership Cohorts and Profile of a Graduate work. Through this Changemaker Hub event, participants of all ages, backgrounds, and roles within K-12 education will have the opportunity to discuss how education does and does not work for today’s youth, come together to reimagine an educational landscape that benefits all, and imagine possibilities in the context of innovating toward bringing their new Profile of a Graduate to life in transformative ways.
One of the main objectives of the day is to foster connections across the school community in order to bring multiple perspectives to the discussion to inform innovative ways of reimagining teaching and learning, using everyone’s expertise and lived experience. Students and adults alike will work to break this cycle and put into practice a different way of collaborating across communities and differences, learn from alternative perspectives, and leave with a sense of energy and urgency around bringing these conversations back to their schools to take action.
“We are proud to partner with World Savvy to shape a collective vision for the future of our schools. By developing a community-driven Profile of a Graduate and creating spaces for collaboration, we’re redefining success for every learner—and preparing students for lives of consequence in a changing world,” said Bo Wright, superintendent of the Geneva City School District.
“Today represents an opportunity to set aside time to seek student input about what they want from their education experience. In the face of complex community and global challenges, it is essential that we empower our young people to lead,” said Hamse Warfa, CEO of World Savvy.
World Savvy describes itself as a “national K-12 non-profit partnering holistically with schools to reimagine education and create more inclusive, student-centered and future-ready learning communities. Since 2002, the organization has changed how students engage with their communities and the world and shaped an educational experience that creates better communicators, collaborators and changemakers – for today and the future.”
