The Geneva school board has appointed Matthew Herbert to replace resigning board member Randy Grenier.

Herbert is a graduate of Cortland City School District and has been a project manager at LeChase Construction for nine years, specializing in K–12 construction projects. He has a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry. Herbert has a daughter in the Geneva CSD UPK program, has been married for nine years to his wife, Lyndsey, and has been a resident of the district for 10 years.

“I firmly believe that the obligation of the school board is to plan and work to improve the school district for the long-term good of the community,” Herbert wrote in his application for appointment. “As a board member, I would help further this obligation to the best of my ability.”

“Matt brings a wealth of experience to our board, including a strong background in project management, an understanding of school finance, and an enthusiastic commitment to serving the school community,” said school board President Kelley Monson. “We are excited to have had 13 exceptional candidates, each sharing a common vision for the success of our students and district. Matt’s combination of skills, experience, and passion made him an outstanding choice to help guide our district.”

Herbert’s appointment expires at the end of June 2025. He has the option of running for one of two vacant seats on the board in May 2025, when both Brian Finnerty’s and the remainder of Grenier’s terms will be open for election.
