Geneva Rotarians continued their Christmas Eve tradition this year of ringing bells at several locations for the Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign.

Rotary members rang the bells all day Christmas Eve and raised $1,195 at the downtown kettle, $955 at the Pedulla’s kettle, $877 at the Walmart grocery door kettle, $585 at the Walmart home door kettle and $464 at the Five Star Bank kettle. The total raised was $4,076 and this amount was matched by an anonymous donor, bringing the total amount to $8,152.

“Words are inadequate to express how grateful we are to those of the Rotary Club who participated in this campaign,” said Salvation Army Major David Champlin at a recent Rotary meeting. “Please accept our sincere appreciation on behalf of the hundreds of families who received food this Christmas and children who received toys … all because of the generous gift of time and effort given by the Rotary Club membership.”

Rotary President Jason Haag praised Rotarian Charlie Bauder for managing the kettle campaign and all the Rotarians who took part. “Service Above Self is our Rotary motto and this effort to raise money for the Salvation Army embodies community service,” said Haag.
