Geneva Resident Files Lawsuit Against City, Police Department

SHARE NOW

A lawsuit has been filed in the state Supreme Court for Ontario County by a local man who claims he suffered severe and permanent injuries after being involved in a two-car accident with a Geneva Police Detective last year.

John Sweet is suing the city, its police department, and Detective Steve Vine. The Finger Lakes Times reports the lawsuit claims Detective Vine was driving in a “negligent, reckless and careless manner” when he hit Sweet’s vehicle at the intersection of Genesee and Lewis Streets on March 24th. Sweet claims he suffered severe and permanent injuries.

According to the police report filed after the accident, Sweet believed he had the right of way at the intersection when he went through it and was struck by Vine’s car. The report also indicated there were no injuries.
