A Geneva Police officer was hospitalized for injuries sustained during a foot pursuit of a larceny suspect.
Officers responded to a reported theft at the Dollar General on North Exchange Street, where 39-year-old Rachel Woodhams-Vasquez allegedly stole $100 in merchandise and fled on a bicycle. After being spotted by police, she abandoned the bike and attempted to evade capture by jumping into Castle Creek and running through a tunnel. She was apprehended shortly after.
Woodhams-Vasquez was charged with three counts of petit larceny, resisting arrest, and obstructing governmental administration.
Officers later learned that Woodhams-Vasquez had several outstanding City of Geneva warrants for two counts of petit larceny, criminal mischief, and conspiracy.
Following her arraignment, Woodhams-Vasquez was released on appearance tickets for Geneva City Court.
After arraignment, Woodhams-Vasquez was arrested by the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office for an alleged larceny that occurred in the town of Waterloo.
The injured Geneva Police Office was treated at Geneva General Hospital and released.
The Geneva Fire Department helped the Geneva Police Department on the initial call.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
