Geneva Police End Noose Investigation

SHARE NOW

Geneva Police have provided an update on an incident they initially classified as a “bias-related incident” that they’ve been investigating since November when a noose made from rope was found attached to a tree on the walking trail near the Long Pier.

Officers conducted a thorough investigation to determine where the rope was purchased and who placed it on the tree. They searched for witnesses and security footage but found no leads. Evidence was sent for DNA analysis, but no results were obtained.

The Geneva Police Department received reports that the rope may have been placed by someone experiencing a mental health crisis and attempting self-harm. It was alleged that the individual had checked into a local hospital, but this information could not be confirmed.

The investigation has been closed pending new evidence.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to contact the Geneva Police Department at 315.828.6771 or Detective Steve Vine at 315.828.6784. All information can remain anonymous.
