One local police chief has been placed on paid administrative leave.
The City of Geneva confirmed on Monday that Chief Matt Colton was placed on paid leave last Friday but did not indicate the reason why. The following is a statement received by Finger Lakes Daily News from Amie Hendrix, Geneva City Manager:
“On January 5, 2024, Police Chief Matthew Colton began paid administrative leave. During this time of absence, Lieutenant Ronald Eveland will be serving in the role of Acting Police Chief.
I am confident that the men and women of the Police Department will continue to support the City as they are led by Lieutenant Eveland while he serves in this temporary role. We remain committed to providing our staff, residents, and visitors of the City of Geneva welcoming and safe spaces to live, learn, work, and play.”
Colton has been police chief since July after being named to the position by City Manager Amie Hendrix. He succeeded Mike Passalacqua, who retired. Colton, who is currently the Acting Chief, joined the Geneva Police Department in 2008. Before being named Chief, Colton held many positions within the department including Lieutenant, Detective, and Officer.
