Geneva Police Arrest Man Following Fatal Overdose

SHARE NOW

A 35-year-old woman died early Tuesday morning after a suspected drug overdose in the city of Geneva.

Police say officers were called to William Street around 2:20 a.m. and found the woman unresponsive inside a U-Haul truck. Despite life-saving efforts from Geneva Police, Finger Lakes Ambulance paramedics, and the Geneva Fire Department, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation by the Geneva Police Department’s Detective Bureau identified a suspect accused of selling the drugs that led to the overdose. Officers arrested Charles C. Karsten, a Geneva resident and convicted felon, on felony charges of criminal possession and criminal sale of a controlled substance in the third degree.

Police say Karsten was found with a large quantity of controlled substances matching those recovered from the victim. He was processed and taken to the Ontario County Jail for arraignment.

The Geneva Police Department thanked the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, Seneca County Sheriff’s Office, and the Ontario County District Attorney’s Office for assisting in the case.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
