The Geneva Police Department is alerting residents to a phone scam it was made aware of on Tuesday.
The scammers are impersonating Geneva Police Officers and have been falsely claiming that a family member of the call recipient has been arrested for Driving While Intoxicated and involvement in a personal injury accident. They then proceed to demand large sums of money as bail for the supposed release of the detained family member.
The Department would like to take this opportunity to inform the community about this deceptive scheme. Please be aware that the Geneva Police Department would never make a phone call to secure bail money. If you receive a call of this nature, it is strongly advised you do not provide any money or personal information. Instead, hang up immediately and dial 911 to report the incident.
The department adds your vigilance is crucial in helping us combat such fraudulent activities.
