The Geneva Police Department recently held a promotional ceremony for Lieutenant John Van Savage and Sergeant Jay Bucklin.
John Van Savage was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. He began his law enforcement career in 2008 with the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office (Correctional Division). Lieutenant Van Savage came to the Geneva Police Department in 2011 where he was assigned to the Uniformed Division’s Road Patrol. He was assigned to the Drug Enforcement Unit from 2013 – 2016 and later advanced to the rank of Sergeant in 2022. Lieutenant Van Savage serves as a Defensive Tactics Instructor, General Topics Instructor, and Crisis Intervention Team member, and is a member of the Tactical Warrant Services. He is assigned to oversee the Uniformed Division.
Jay Bucklin was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. Sergeant Bucklin began his law enforcement career with the Geneva Police Department in 2018. He is certified in several topics. Sergeant Bucklin is a member of the Bicycle Patrol, a Commercial Vehicle Enforcement officer, and is a member of the Crisis Intervention Team. He is currently assigned to the Uniformed Division as a Road Patrol Supervisor.
Geneva City Clerk Lori Guinan administered the Oath of Office.
