Geneva City Council has unanimously approved a new three-year contract for City Manager Amie Hendrix, extending her tenure through 2028.
The vote, taken Wednesday night, was described as an overwhelming show of confidence in Hendrix, who has led the city since June 2022. Before coming to Geneva, she spent 12 years working for Tompkins County and the City of Ithaca.
Prior to the Wednesday vote, Councilor Christopher Lavin said he was a big supporter of the manager’s continuation. He added that in his opinion, the Council owes her a promise of more and better direction going forward.
“I think if there’s a challenge that she faced that I thought was unfair was how much she had to read the tea leaves of a council that wasn’t being as direct and organized in giving her direction, yet she found a way through to pretty good endings, ” said Lavin. “I hope that going forward, we’ll be able to keep her out of politics and keep her in the business of best practices in government, which is what we hire the professionals for in this city. And I look forward to working with her.”
Mayor Steve Valentino, who authored the resolution, stated, “City Manager Hendrix has established a strong team that will lead us with the utmost integrity and professionalism.”
Under the new agreement, the Ovid native will earn an annual salary of $146,750, along with additional benefits. The contract takes effect January 1.
