A Geneva man is facing multiple felony charges after police say they found a dead dog with apparent gunshot wounds and several firearms inside his apartment following a suspicious incident on South Main Street.

Geneva police said officers were called to South Main Street around 7:22 a.m. Monday after receiving a report of a suspicious situation. Officers located a man later identified as 52-year-old Jason Bunnell in the roadway, bleeding and acting erratically.

During the investigation, neighbors told officers where Bunnell lived and said a dog was inside the apartment. Police said another neighbor reported hearing loud “popping” noises coming from the residence.

Officers observed a broken exterior window and conducted a safety check of the apartment. Inside, police said they found a deceased dog with what appeared to be gunshot wounds, multiple shell casings, a firearm, and several bullet holes in the floor.

Detectives later obtained a search warrant for the apartment, where they located several long guns and multiple handguns, according to police.

Bunnell was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries before being released into police custody. He was processed at the Geneva Police Department and transported to the Ontario County Jail to await arraignment.

Bunnell is charged with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, both Class C felonies, and reckless endangerment in the first degree, a Class D felony.

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is being asked to contact the Geneva Police Department at
