A Geneva man was airlifted to the hospital following a crash Sunday morning on Routes 5 and 20 in Waterloo.
Deputies responded around 8:35 a.m. to the area of 1291 Waterloo-Geneva Road and found a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica off the roadway, next to a severed NYSEG utility pole. The driver, 24-year-old Ismael Reyes, was first transported by North Seneca Ambulance, then airlifted by Life Net to SUNY Upstate Medical University. He is listed in stable condition.
The crash caused heavy front-end damage to the vehicle and destroyed the utility pole, resulting in a brief power outage for nearby residents.
Reyes was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation, speed not reasonable and prudent, and operating over hazardous markings. He is scheduled to appear in Waterloo Town Court.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Waterloo police, Waterloo Fire Department, Seneca Falls police, North Seneca Ambulance, and Life Net.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
