Geneva Man Accused in Theft of Donation Jar

SHARE NOW

A Geneva man is facing charges after police say he stole a donation jar from a downtown business on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Geneva Police Department, officers responded to a report of theft around 1 p.m. at a business on Castle Street. The business owner told police that a man had entered the store and taken the jar.

Officers later found a man matching the description on Exchange Street and identified him as Jonathan G. Toledo, a Geneva resident. Police say Toledo had previously been banned from the business and entered unlawfully with the intent to commit a crime.

Authorities noted that Toledo has a history of arrests, including 14 in 2024 for thefts from vehicles, businesses, and drug possession.

Toledo was processed at the police department and taken to the Ontario County Jail for arraignment. He was later released without bail and is scheduled to return to court at a later date.

The Geneva Police Detective Bureau has also identified Toledo as a person of interest in several recent car larcenies reported over the past three weeks.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
