Geneva, Ithaca Among State’s Latest Broadband Funding Recipients

SHARE NOW

New York State this week announced $52.6 million in broadband infrastructure awards, including funding for two local projects aimed at expanding internet access in affordable housing.

  • Geneva (Ontario County) – $203,663: Community Broadband Networks will bring hybrid fiber-fixed wireless service to affordable and public housing, offering $10/month service and $30/month gigabit speeds for at least 10 years.
  • Greater Ithaca (Tompkins County) – $1,012,456: Community Broadband Networks will provide the same service to affordable and public housing properties in the Greater Ithaca area.

The statewide funding, awarded through the Municipal Infrastructure Program, Affordable Housing Connectivity Program, and Deployment Program County Partnerships, will connect 6,900 locations—including 19,000 affordable housing units—and build 234 miles of new fiber and 46 wireless hubs.

Officials say these local projects will ensure low-income residents in Geneva and Ithaca gain reliable, high-speed internet access and digital equity.

“New York State is leading the nation in closing the digital divide once and for all,” Governor Kathy Hochul said. “Today’s $52 million in awards represents our commitment to connecting communities that need it most. In today’s economy, broadband isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity for education, healthcare, economic opportunity, and full participation in modern life.”
