A $1.18 million Early College High School Grant will help Geneva students earn associate’s degrees.

“It’s part of a larger effort to reshape the high school experience, to best align it to college and career readiness,” said Wright.

Running from 2024-2028, the grant will allow high school students to earn an associate’s degree while also earning their high school diploma. Beginning next year, Geneva High freshmen can apply for the Geneva Promise program, where they can take credit-bearing classes from Finger Lakes Community College, Hobart & William Smith, and SUNY Buffalo State.

“Hobart and William Smith is committed to working with the Geneva City School District to continue to expand educational and career resources for Geneva’s students,” says Gearan.  “I congratulate Superintendent Wright and the District for their significant efforts that allowed them to secure more than $1 million in funding through the Early College High School grant. These efforts will support our collective efforts to allow students to graduate from high school ready to enter the workforce or college.”

The grant will also fund internship opportunities with local businesses and industries.

“FLCC is excited to partner with, and help bring Geneva Promise to new and greater success!” Nye added.

Started as a series of conversations between Geneva Superintendent Bo Wright, FLCC President Rob Nye, and HWS President, Mark Gearan, the goal is to increase and improve high school and post-high school opportunities for Geneva students.
