Geneva General Hospital’s Women’s Health Services has once again earned national recognition, receiving a three-year accreditation in stereotactic breast biopsy from the American College of Radiology (ACR), the seventh consecutive time the hospital has achieved this distinction since 2004.

The accreditation is considered the highest standard in medical imaging and patient safety, and is awarded only to facilities that meet rigorous ACR Practice Parameters and Technical Standards.

“We are very proud of this recognition,” said Lisa Davis, Supervisor of Women’s Health Services. “This accreditation acknowledges our Women’s Health team’s clinical excellence and is a tribute to their dedication to the patients of Finger Lakes Health.”

Stereotactic breast biopsy is a minimally invasive procedure in which a specialized mammography system is used to guide a radiologist’s instruments to sample cells from a suspicious breast area. It is often used to help diagnose abnormal growths detected during mammograms.

The ACR’s accreditation process involves a comprehensive peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists, examining everything from image quality and equipment to staff qualifications and quality assurance procedures.

The hospital’s continued accreditation underscores its commitment to providing safe, effective, and high-quality care to women across the Finger Lakes region.
