One of the men hoping to replace Congresswoman Claudia Tenney on Capitol Hill has reached a campaign milestone.
Mario Fratto reports his campaign has collected over 2,000 signatures to appear on the ballot for the Republican primary in June. In New York’s 24th Congressional District, 1,250 signatures are needed to appear on the Republican primary ballot.
Speaking with Finger Lakes News Radio, Fratto said surpassing 1,250 signatures is a testament to his grassroots campaign.
“I think it’s a really good showing of the support in the district, said Fratto. “It’s a sizeable improvement over what we did in 2022, and it just feels so good to know this came from grassroots volunteers… It was people who were excited to help us get there and we did it!”
Fratto added that he is grateful for all the local support he’s received.
“I would just like to say thank you to everybody who helped us do this and a special thank you to the people who were on the Republican committees who actually stepped up and went against the grain. I think it takes a lot of courage and I really admire those folks who were willing to help us and take that on,” Fratto continued.
Fratto, who announced his intention to challenge Tenney to a rematch in October, isn’t the only Republican challenging the congresswoman for the GOP’s nomination. Retired Auburn pediatrician Phillip Gioia is collecting signatures in his bid to appear on the June ballot.
Following redistricting, the 24th Congressional District stretches from Niagara to Oswego Counties, covering most of the Finger Lakes.
New York State will hold federal, state, and local primary elections on June 25.
