A $500 million Marine Corps contract has been awarded to one Finger Lakes company.
US Senator Chuck Schumer made the announcement that Lite Coms in Victor and Fairport has been awarded the five-year contract to manufacture equipment for the marine’s Wideband Satellite Communications Light and Heavy radio systems. He called the announcement a major victory, not only for the Lite Coms but also for the people of the Finger Lakes and our military.
“Today’s announcement is a major victory for Lite Coms workforce, the local Finger Lakes economy, and our brave men and women serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. This major $500 million investment not only underscores Lite Coms’ expertise in satellite communication technology, but also highlights the Finger Lakes region as a hub for cutting-edge manufacturing,” said Senator Schumer. “This contract is a testament to Lite Coms’ reputation for innovation and reliability, and I’m proud to have helped deliver this major win for the Finger Lakes community that will also boost our national defense.”
Work will take place in two phases. Phase one involves developmental testing and logistics before a Marine Corps fielding decision. Phase two will involve production, testing, and delivery of the systems. The company will also be responsible for providing any data, support, or upgrades needed to maintain the systems’ relevancy.
“The Team at Lite Coms is thrilled and humbled to be selected on this highly competitive procurement. We are excited to provide the US Marine Corp with the best Satellite Equipment available! We want to thank our supporters from Monroe and Ontario County, and Senator Schumer for their continued support” said Bob Jacobson, Founder and CEO of Lite Coms.
Schumer added that this contract is expected to create 25 new jobs.
