Florida Man Charged With Killing Brothers in Southern Tier; BOLO Indicated Possible Travel to Gorham

State police say a Florida man has been arrested and charged with killing his two brothers during a violent confrontation at a hunting cabin in Allegany County.

According to the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation in Amity, 65-year-old Scot Thompson, of Englewood, Florida, was arrested on Monday and charged with two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of first-degree criminal use of a firearm.

Troopers were called to a disturbance on Botsford Hollow Road in the town of Allen on Sunday, just after 10 p.m. When they arrived, they found two men, identified as 70-year-old Mark Thompson of Canterbury, Connecticut, and 69-year-old David Thompson of Port Charlotte, Florida, dead at the scene.

Investigators say the three brothers had been staying at a hunting cabin when a physical fight broke out. During the altercation, Scot Thompson allegedly shot both victims with a rifle. He then left the scene in David Thompson’s vehicle.

A BOLO for the vehicle was issued to law enforcement across the region late Sunday night. That alert also noted that Scot Thompson might be headed to a location in the town of Gorham to confront another individual. However, police did not release any further details about that information.

A short time later, officers from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office and Geneseo Police Department located the vehicle and took Thompson into custody without incident. He was turned over to state police at SP Amity for processing and will be transported to the Allegany County Jail for arraignment.

Autopsies for the victims are scheduled at Strong Memorial Hospital.

The Forensic Identification Unit, Allegany County District Attorney’s Office, Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, Geneseo Police Department, and the Allegany County Coroner all assisted in the investigation. Police say the case remains ongoing.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
