The Ovid Fire Department is reminding residents to take extra precautions with home heating systems following a chimney fire on Wednesday morning in the Town of Ovid.
Firefighters responded at 6:24 A.M. to the incident on Center Road, where crews quickly contained a chimney fire and prevented damage to the home. No injuries were reported.
In the wake of the call, Ovid fire officials say they have responded to several recent structure and chimney fires in the area and are urging residents to be proactive. They recommend using space heaters safely and making sure chimneys and flues are clean and in proper working condition.
Fire officials note that heating-related fires increase during the colder months and say simple prevention steps can go a long way in keeping families safe.
