A garage was destroyed in a fire Thursday night at a home in the Ontario County town of Hopewell.
Ontario County Sheriff’s deputies and several fire departments responded to 3676 Swamp Road around 8:28 p.m. for a reported structure fire. When crews arrived, they found a large garage on the east side of the home fully engulfed in flames.
Authorities say homeowners Darryl and Wendy Ruggles were at the residence at the time of the fire, along with Alisha Vay and her son. No injuries were reported.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames, but the garage was destroyed. Officials say the east side of the home sustained minor heat damage but did not catch fire.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Ontario County Fire Coordinator.
The Hopewell Fire Department served as the primary responding agency and was assisted by the Canandaigua City, Canandaigua VA, Crystal Beach, Clifton Springs, Seneca Castle, and Cheshire fire departments, along with Canandaigua Ambulance. Several additional departments stood by during the incident.
Swamp Road was closed to traffic for the duration of the response. The incident is being investigated by the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office.
