A fire Tuesday evening caused damage to the HEP Sales and North Main Lumber store on Routes 5&20 in Waterloo. Geneva, Border City, and Waterloo Fire Departments, along with North Seneca Ambulance responded to the scene just before 7:30 pm. Oaks Corners Fire Department provided standby for Border City. Smoke could be seen coming from the building. The fire was quickly brought under control. Routes 5 & 20, the Waterloo-Geneva Road, was closed for about 2-and-half hours as firefighters connected to the hydrant across the highway from the HEP plaza. The road opened just before 10 pm.
