Fingerprint Helps Police Find Man Who Abandoned Cats in Canandaigua

SHARE NOW

The person who was seen on a doorbell camera dropping off two cats inside of a cardboard box on the front porch of a residence on Hamlin Drive in the city of Canandaigua has been charged.

Authorities say with the help of a fingerprint that was lifted from a water dish left inside the box, police were able to identify the suspect as 23-year-old Cole Carpenter, of Newark. Carpenter told investigators he dropped the cats off at the home on January 26th because he was unable to take them to his new apartment and was unable to rehome them.

Carpenter was charged with animal abandonment and released on an appearance ticket.

The cats, named Lucy and Ethel, are available for adoption at the Happy Tails Animal Shelter.
