Farmington Family Safely Escapes Structure Fire

SHARE NOW

A family was safely evacuated from their home on Tuesday afternoon after a fire broke out inside the walls of a residence in the Town of Farmington.

Ontario County Sheriff’s deputies say they were called to 127 Center Street around 4 p.m. for a reported structure fire. The homeowners, Scott Williams and Lisa Williams, told deputies they first noticed an electrical circuit had tripped and that one outlet felt warm to the touch. After unplugging nearby appliances, the couple heard a crackling sound coming from inside the wall and discovered that part of the wall was warm.

The homeowners had their two children gather the family dogs and exit the house before calling 911. Everyone inside the residence made it out safely.

When fire crews arrived, an active flame was found inside one of the interior walls. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze, which was declared under control just minutes after it began.

The American Red Cross responded to assist the family with temporary housing.

Farmington, Victor, Canandaigua, and Veterans Affairs fire departments responded to the scene along with Victor Farmington Ambulance. Ontario County Fire Coordinators Jeff Eiffert and Jim Hansen were also called in, along with Farmington Code Enforcement Officer Lloyd.

No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
